Hi there, thanks for visiting my blog! I set up this blog to prove that even a beginner can create something beautiful with a little practice. I hope it will encourage others out there to get 'crafty' and become creative. This blog will feature things I've been making and patterns I like. I'd love to hear about what you're making too.

Birthday Treat
Slight deviation from the sewing theme, but yesterday I made a birthday card for...someone (their birthday isn't just yet so I can't say who!). It's only very basic, but how can you go wrong with pink, glitter, shoes and flowers?
The pink card and shoes were bought from The Works, the 'Happy Birthday' from Ryman and the flowers from a craft seller on Ebay, all relatively cheaply. Craft glue is also an essential when making cards.
Word of warning - if you try to make a paper insert for the card, don't stick it down with too much glue. I made a card before and it looked lovely on the outside but a disaster inside - lots of glue bubbles and glue seeping out of the sides. I had to re-make the card and didn't include an insert.
I think it makes such a difference to receive a personalised, handmade card. It shows you really care about the person enough to put time and effort into making something.
I'd really encourage everyone to give it a go - if I can do it, you can too!

Very cute, Sarah! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your projects. I love making stuff, too, which is why I added a "making" tab to my baking blog :)
ReplyDeleteIf you have any nice craft project ideas that would go well with shabby chic, let me know! I'm still in the process of renovating/decorating my future flat.

Hi Korlin,
DeleteThank you! I like anything vintage and I think shabby chic is definitely a good way to go when decorating!
Have you thought about looking around charity shops for old furniture or photo frames? These can always be roughly painted white or re-varnished to give them that 'vintage' feel.
It's not exactly shabby chic, but I love this photo frame: http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/Pages/Ideas/Idea.aspx?id=1504 . Perhaps you could put some vintage-style fabric or printed paper in the background of the heart?
